Travelling abroad 'is essential'

Taking a foreign holiday is now an essential part of life for many consumers, according to an expert.

Murat Dedeman of the Turkish Tourism Investors Association said that while people may be willing to compromise over issues such as the length of their holiday, financial issues would not stop them going abroad.

He was quoted by the Guardian as saying that concerns over a global economic recession would not deter people from booking time abroad.

Mr Dedeman said this was because foreign holidays have now become a "necessity" for many people.

He remarked: "If they spent four days on holiday in the past, then they trim this to three days but they will still take holidays."

These comments come amid concerns of an international recession in the wake of the credit crunch and other economic problems in the US.

Earlier this year, the National Association of Estate Agents said global financial issues were unlikely to dampen demand for overseas property among British buyers.
