Bodrum

Bodrum Bay, Turkey
Domestic and foreign popularity

Investors preferring to take advantage of the tourism market in Turkey may consider Bodrum, a former small fishing port that has turned into one of Turkey’s best-known tourist destinations. Its lively nightlife, paired with the attractive coastline of the Bodrum peninsula, guarantees a steady stream of domestic and foreign tourists every year. It is considered an upmarket town, and investment has been poured into developing the area, including two new marinas, golf courses, and the expansion of Bodrum airport.

Demand for property

Dubbed the Turkish Riviera, demand for property in Bodrum is high as it offers easy access from Bodrum airport along with a unique blend of traditional streets brimming with local life and historical sites, with a new modern marina, vibrant nightlife and trendy beach clubs – in short, all that today’s tourist could ask for.

Tourism industry

Indeed, the town receives a large proportion of all Turkey’s annual visitors; this demand accordingly means that property here can be more expensive than that available in other areas of Turkey. However, it is still cheap by international standards, and as well as a burgeoning tourism industry, Bodrum offers international transport links, a growing expatriate community (more than 3,000 British families are already living in Bodrum) and the promise of further positive development.

Controlled development

Development in Bodrum over the last couple of decades has thankfully been strictly controlled; all new buildings are low-rise, blocks are painted white in a Mediterranean style and strict controls regarding density levels are carefully adhered to. This ensures an unspoilt setting and a distinct lack of the high-rise construction encountered in other Mediterranean resorts.

Golfing resort

Bodrum is famous for offering the best in the way of year-round tourist facilities in Turkey and these include the new Vita Park USGA golf course due for completion by the end of 2007. The ‘Club’, which is to include one 18-hole and two 9-hole PGA standard courses, promises a driving range, clubhouse, extensive social and commercial facilities all to the most luxurious of specifications. Property purchasers are snapping up property in a multitude of new developments currently going up in the immediate area, prior to the course’s completion, safe in the knowledge that prices should increase significantly once the course is opened.
