Spain aims to boost green credentials

People who live in Spain could find themselves benefiting from efforts to help the environment.
According to the Guardian, authorities in the European country are becoming increasingly keen on being more eco-friendly.
Therefore, a number of new policies are currently being considered, such as changing the speed limit in order to save fuel.
Other proposed initiatives include plans to place a cap on how much heating can be used during winter, as well using less street lighting and air conditioning in public buildings.
Commenting on the ideas, the Guardian said this shows that the government is being highly progressive.
The newspaper commented: "Long sought out for its heat, Spain is suddenly playing a noble role in keeping the world as a whole cool."
According to the National Statistics Institute, 4.2 million foreign nationals have Spanish residency permits as of March 2008.
The figures, cited by the Typically Spanish website, showed that nearly two-thirds of these people are based in Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia and Andalucia.
