Mediterranean attracts UK visitors

The Mediterranean is still a major draw for people from the UK, according to a new study.
Research by TNS Travel and Tourism found that more than two-thirds of the British population are planning to head overseas this year.
Although long-haul destinations were found to be attracting increased levels of interest, this does not seem to be impacting on the appeal of more established markets.
This was highlighted when 27 per cent of respondents said they are booking seven nights in a location along the Mediterranean coastline.
Commenting on the findings, Tom Costley of TNS said they showed that global economic problems are not putting people off booking holidays.
He remarked: "The UK holiday market appears resilient in the face of the economic downturn."
The comments come amid concerns of an international recession in the wake of the credit crunch and the US sub-prime crisis.
