International tourism set to increase

The number of people travelling abroad for a holiday is set to increase, according to new estimates.
The World Tourism Organisation (WTO) stated that the amount of international tourism for 2007 would be 5.7 per cent higher than last year, reports AFP.
At the beginning of the year, the body had projected an increase of four per cent, which means that the growth of foreign travel this year has outpaced early predictions.
Due to the increase in the number of people going overseas, the most holiday destinations were found to be benefiting from greater tourism revenue.
For example, the tourist industry in Spain generated a total of £24.8 billion for the country's economy in 2006.
The growing popularity of the nation will also be likely to boost demand for holiday accommodation, creating new opportunities for overseas property buyers as a result.
Earlier this month, Co-operative Travel stated that Spain was likely to receive an influx of British tourists at Christmas, as it offered a sunnier alternative to the UK.
