Brits set for two-week Christmas holiday

An increasing number of Britons are taking two-week holidays during the Christmas period, experts have revealed.
Figures from TravelRepublic.co.uk stated that this year had seen a 238 per cent increase in the amount of people going abroad for a fortnight over the festive season.
Countries such as Spain were found to be among the most popular destinations, along with Portugal and Egypt.
Research showed that the majority of holidaymakers were heading to these places in order to enjoy some winter sunshine, partly because summer in the UK was marked by torrential rain and floods this year.
In addition, the firm said more companies were closing for business over the Christmas period, which resulted in members of staff having more time off work.
The comments follow research by Co-operative Travel which indicated that there would an 11 per cent increase in the number of people travelling abroad at Christmas this year.
