Britons head to Spain despite weak pound

The weakness of the pound is not denting the appeal of Spain among British holidaymakers, an expert has stated.
Ignacio Vasallo of the Turespana Spanish Tourist Board in London predicted that the number of visitors from the UK this year is likely to match the amount recorded in 2007.
Speaking to the Majorca Daily Bulletin, he said this is despite the fact that the pound has fallen to an all-time low against the euro.
Mr Vasallo stated this is unlikely to have a negative impact on tourism in Spain, as it is one of the cheapest countries in the eurozone.
Furthermore, he said any slight increases in costs would be offset by the cheap air fares to the country.
Mr Vasallo commented: "While the credit crunch may persuade British consumers to put off selling the house or buying a new car, it will not deter them from going on holiday this year."
This comes shortly after official figures published by Reuters showed that 10.6 million people visited Spain between January and March 2008.
