Investment Property in Spain
Locations - Other places of interest
Barcelona
Barcelona and its environs - despite remarkable coastline, sumptuous marinas, shop-til-you-drop boutiques and incredible architecture - have one downside: it is Spain’s most expensive location for property. The Catalans have an already high purchasing power quotient which makes the area appreciate much beyond the national average. It is now regarded as an ultimate city break – easily accessible from the UK, with a high standard of eateries, a huge cultural appeal and still attractive to the younger crowds with its countless bars and clubs.
Valencia City
Valencia City is on the up, touted as ‘Barcelona at half the price’, with the appeal of Avant-Garde architecture and thriving nightlife. It is another of Spain’s beautiful cities on the beach, and has two main beaches which are popular with tourists. The property market was given a huge boost thanks to the Americas Cup sailing regatta which returned to Europe in 2007 for the first time in 150 years. This Olympic-sized event was staged in Valencia, bringing in vast foreign investment and introducing the city to a whole new market of potential tourists and buyers.
Granada
Granada is the name of a province and of that province’s capital city, in the region of Andalucia. The city is famous for the Alhambra Palace, once home to the Moorish kings of Granada and now a popular tourist attraction. Granada province also includes the Sierra Nevada mountain range with its popular ski resort – the southernmost ski resort in Europe - offering visitors the option of skiing the slopes in the morning and swimming in the Mediterranean in the afternoon. In addition to excellent transport links with the rest of Spain, Granada has its own airport with daily scheduled flights from the UK offered by low-cost airlines.
Jerez
A few years ago, the city of Jerez de la Frontera in south-western Spain would not have been considered a potential investment destination, but a recent overhaul of transport links has opened the area up to property buyers and visitors. Jerez now has its own airport with direct flights to the UK, and an improved road network connecting it to other parts of Spain. The city has a traditional appeal which, combined with its upmarket feel, offers visitors an alternative experience to many other parts of Spain and one that is becoming more popular with visitors. The city has adapted its facilities towards attracting a solid and lucrative tourist market, and property developers have also begun to catch on to the potential in Jerez.
