Romania attracts more visitors

New opportunities for overseas property investors are likely to be created in Romania this year.
According to government figures cited by Ziarul Financiar, about 7.7 million people visited the eastern European country last year.
This is more than a quarter higher than the figure recorded 12 months earlier, indicating that Romania's tourist trade is growing.
However, this also means that the country's rental market will be benefiting directly, as there will be greater demand for temporary lodgings.
As a result, the country could be a good option for overseas property investors to consider, especially since the government is predicting a further increase in visitor numbers this year.
According to tourism minister Lucia Morariu, the figure for 2008 is expected to be 10 per cent up on last year.
The country has attracted greater levels of attention from overseas partly as a result of its recent accession to the European Union.
Romania became a member of the international body in January 2007.
