Increased tourism could boost eastern European property

The eastern European property market could be set to benefit as a result of increased visitor numbers.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), countries such as Romania and Poland are likely to see a surge in the number of foreign arrivals in the next few years.

The organisation said that overall number of air passengers was likely to rise by 620 million before 2011, with most of the extra people visiting eastern European countries.

This is likely to trigger increased demand for rental accommodation in these markets, opening up new opportunities for foreign property investors.

Giovanni Bisignani, chief executive of IATA, commented: "The numbers clearly show that the world wants to fly - and it also needs to fly."

He added that the aviation sector was a critical part of generating wealth for the global economy.

This comes after data cited by the Sofia Echo showed that over the first nine months of the year, Bulgaria received more than 4.5 million foreign visitors.
