BA is latest airline to increase services to Romania

British Airways (BA) has announced that it is looking into increasing its services between the UK and Romania, by adding flights to Translyania to its schedule. This makes BA the latest airline to increase its services to Romania, as carriers respond to the rising demand for holidays in the country.
BA has already doubled the number of services it operates between London and Bucharest. The Romanian capital is becoming a popular weekend break destination, and high levels of foreign investment into the city have created employment opportunities, which are attracting a growing expatriate population. However, BA’s Romanian commercial manager, Emil Delibashev, has said: “Romanian destinations outside Bucharest are important to us and we are particularly interested in Transylvania.”
The rise in demand seen by Targu-Mures airport, the main airport of the Transylvanian region, has been considerable. Over the last year, it has reported a three-fold increase in traffic. Currently only one airline – the low-cost carrier WizzAir - offers UK travellers services to the region.
Several airlines offer flights between the UK and Bucharest – currently WizzAir, easyJet and BA, as well as the Romanian airline Tarom. Back in July, WizzAir announced that it would increase the number of services it operated between London and Bucharest in response to growing demand. WizzAir will now fly daily between Bucharest and London Luton, which represents an increase in flight frequency of 133%.
Investors will greet the news of increased services to Romania as both a confirmation of rising demand from tourists, and a positive sign for the future. Investors have seen in many markets that an improvement in transport links making the country more accessible will generally result in a boost to the country’s tourist industry, and also to its property market. It is positive news for the holiday rental market, and also opens up the country to potential buyers.
