Overseas property market hits take-up of package holidays

A new report has revealed that the traditional package holiday is declining as a result of increased foreign property ownership.
According to Foreign Currency Direct, holiday home owners tend to visit their property about five times each year, while many lend to them to their friends free of charge.
This has led to fewer people opting to purchase a package holiday abroad, reports Travel Weekly.
Peter Ellis, chief executive of Foreign Currency Direct, remarked: "We're increasingly money-rich, time-poor, so there has been significant growth in demand for short breaks rather than 7/14 holidays."
Figures also showed that eight per cent of holiday home owners visit their residence once a month, while 17 per cent rent it out for a fee.
According to currency specialist HiFX, many Britons are purchasing a foreign property as a precursor to moving abroad on a permanent basis.
