Couple highlights attractions of Portugal
A couple from the UK have discussed their reasons for leaving the country in favour of living in Portugal.
Richard Edwards and Jo Wheeler said they had often holidayed in Portugal with their children, but were becoming disillusioned with Britain at the same time.
Ms Wheeler told the Telegraph that a number of issues influenced their decisions, such as the better climate in Portugal and the lower cost of living.
In addition, she stated that they both realised that since the country was well-served by airlines, they would be able to commute to the UK and remain in their original jobs.
Ms Wheeler told the publication: "We are now international people and our children have far more physical freedom and fun in the environment than at home."
She added that her commute to the UK was roughly the same length as the time it took to travel to London from their previous home in Cheshire.
According to Yorkshire Bank, this year's wet summer has led to more than two in five Britons considering buying an overseas property in a sunny destination.
