UK airport sees increase in passenger numbers

A regional airport in the UK has reported that its passenger numbers have gone up in the last year.
Robin Hood Airport revealed that in January 2008, the number of people passing through the facility was 5.7 per cent higher than it had been 12 months earlier.
This was largely because of flights operated by low-cost airlines including Ryanair and Wizz Air, which offered services to both established European locations and countries in the east of the continent, such as Poland.
The facility has proved to be popular since it was opened three years ago because of its close proximity to places such as Sheffield, York, Lincoln and Doncaster.
As a result, foreign locations are now more easily accessible to people living in these towns and cities.
Commenting on the figures, Hugh Lang from Peel Airports said: "We're happy to report the growth in passenger throughput year on year, which demonstrates the continued impact Robin Hood Airport has on the airport region."
Meanwhile, Ryanair has reported an increase in passenger numbers of 17 per cent on a year-by-basis.
