Poznan
Diverse, vibrant, yet overlooked
Poznan is a city that is often overlooked, both by visitors and property buyers, but it has much to offer both. It is very diverse, with clearly demarcated areas for business, a bustling city centre which boasts one of Europe’s finest squares and a stunning old town with its cathedral quarter.
Logistically located
The city is emerging as a good property market due to its strong industry, particularly the automotive sector, and its location close to Germany proving a good centre for the logistics industry.
Shortage of new-builds
Poznan is still relatively undiscovered by overseas investors and has a marked shortage of new-build property. The city is growing fast, has high employment levels, a young, well-educated population and the second highest average wage in the country after Warsaw.
Gdansk
Tourism and industry
The birthplace of the Solidarity movement, Gdansk is both an industrial powerhouse, with Poland’s biggest port and shipyard, and one of the country’s main tourist areas. It attracts large numbers of summer visitors, especially from Germany.
Cultural and economic importance
The city lies on the southern coast of Gdansk Bay, in a conurbation with the spa town of Sopot, the city of Gdynia and suburban communities which together form a metropolitan area called the Tri-City area. Gdansk is one of the main centres of cultural, economic and administrative life in Poland.
Strategic position
The city’s strategic geographical position, extensive economic and transport infrastructure, and well-educated workforce make Gdansk a tempting property investment location. This is especially true now that its airport, 15km from the city centre, has opened up the area to visitors from all over Europe.
Resort of Sopot
In the larger Tri-City area, the seaside spa resort of Sopot offers a potential holiday letting opportunity. Sopot is known as the summer capital of Poland.
Zakopane
Popular ski resort
Zakopane is Poland’s most popular ski resort, and claims to be the biggest European mountain resort north of the Alps. It is located in the Tatra Mountains, near the border with Slovakia and an hour-and-a-half’s drive from Krakow.
Holiday destination
The town attracts more than 2 million visitors, the vast majority of these being domestic visitors. The town has two distinct seasons – winter, when it offers the best skiing in Poland, and summer when it is a magnet for hikers and nature lovers. Zakopane is worth considering as both a holiday home destination, and a holiday-let investment opportunity.
