Moroccan tourism thrives amid credit crunch

Morocco's tourism sector is not being negatively affected by ongoing economic problems across the world, according to new statistics.
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) revealed that the number of incoming visitors has gone up in the last year.
Figures showed that Morocco saw a relatively large increase in tourist arrivals when compared with many other nations.
Indeed, a double-digit growth rate was recorded during the first five months of the year.
This contributed to a five per cent increase on a global scale, a figure which has led to UNWTO being optimistic about the future of the tourism industry.
"Given current circumstances we are cautious, although we remain positive for the overall industry perspectives in 2008," said secretary general Francesco Frangialli.
According to ClickAfrique, the government in Morocco has made boosting the industry one of its key priorities in the last few years.
The publication said it has helped to drive expansion in the sector by introducing new rules and regulation which have supported it.
