Visitors to Italy 'spending more money'

Tourists in Italy have been found to be spending increased amounts of money on holiday.
According to the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), leisure travellers spent more between January and August this year than during the same period of 2006.
Overall travel expenditure during this period was found to have risen by nine per cent.
The WTO also revealed that the amount spent by holidaymakers in Italy was the seventh-highest in the world.
This means that tourism in the country is proving to be highly lucrative for the Italian economy, as new wealth is being generated by foreign visitors.
Furthermore, the findings could enhance the appeal of Italy among overseas property buyers, many of whom have already been drawn there by its strong tourist trade.
This comes after MyHoliday.com said the country was one of the most popular locations among self-catering tourists.
The website stated that this meant that holiday homes in Italy were in strong demand among foreign visitors.
