Tuscan dream endures

Emerging property markets have not stopped British investors from being drawn to rural Italy, according to property watchdogs.
As an established market, with land available for excellent prices, Italy remains an extremely popular destination for investment, said the Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP).
Paul Owen, spokesperson for the AIPP, said that familiarity and dreams of an idyllic Italian lifestyle were a huge part of its appeal, with the south especially popular.
"The new area it seems for investors is Calabria, people want the old 'buying a Tuscan farmhouse' dream," he commented.
He confirmed the pull of Italy's 'toe', adding: "The attraction of Calabria in Italy's market is cheap prices.
"What's actually on offer there is a plot of land, not just the farm house."
Mr Owen stressed the importance of sensible investment, however, even with the relative security of the Italian market:
"Do your research, use a bonafide agent and you should always use an independent lawyer."
He finished: "The staggering fact about this marketplace is that so many Brits go overseas and don't use a lawyer."
Recent AIPP research listed Italy as the fifth most popular destination for UK investors.
