More visitors 'going to Venice'

The Italian city of Venice is attracting a growing number of visitors, according to an expert.
Federica Durica of the Italian tourist office predicted that this year's overall number of holidaymakers would reach about 20 million.
He said tourism was set to reach record levels, as the amount of overnight stays during the year to date was already up on the whole of 2006.
Figures cited by Mr Durica to AFP showed that during the first ten months of the year, about 8.7 million spent a minimum of one night in Venice.
However, he told the news provider during the whole of 2006, the total was just 8.2 million.
The figures could be of interest to prospective investors in the Italian market, as it indicates a growing demand for holiday accommodation.
This comes after MyHoliday.com stated that tourists from the UK were booking somewhere to stay for their summer break up to nine months in advance in order to get the best places.
According to the group, Italy is one of the most popular destinations among self-catering holidaymakers.
