Italian region 'witnesses 40% increase in visitors'

Some 40 per cent more people visited the Valle d'Aosta region of Italy in 2007 than they did in 2006, it has been announced.

Ansa.it reported that regional councillor for education and culture Laurent Vierin said visitor numbers were on the rise. Those looking for an investment property in Italy may be attracted to this area due to its popularity.

In total, there were reportedly 277,000 visitors who headed to this particular area of the Mediterranean country. People often buy holiday homes in areas they have enjoyed visiting on holiday.

There are a number of tourist attractions in the region - many of which are castles or other fortresses. Indeed, tourism website region.vda.it states that the Valle d'Aosta has a "rich" feudal history.

The last week of March is Culture Week in this area of the country, which may attract even more visitors.
