Holidaymakers 'reliving old memories'

Many holidaymakers from the UK are choosing to return to places they are sentimentally attached to, according to new research.
Expedia.co.uk found that 90 per cent of tourists were using their holidays to go back to a place where they had previously enjoyed a memorable experience, reports TravelMole.
For example, some were said to be choosing to return to the scene of their honeymoon, while others were found to be going back to a place where they once lived.
In addition, revisiting the location of a childhood holiday was also said to be popular.
Commenting on the findings, Expedia.co.uk stated that people's past associations with places such as Spain and Italy was one of the reasons for their continuing appeal.
Managing director Caroline Cartellieri commented: "Nostalgia has become a big driver in destination choice."
The familiarity with established locations could also account for their popularity with overseas property buyers from the UK.
According to Yorkshire Bank, 45 per cent of prospective purchasers would opt for a holiday home in Spain.
