European tourist markets 'popular with Russians'

An online travel agent has revealed that an increasing number of Russian holidaymakers are visiting Europe.
Lastminute.com stated that Russians were becoming a highly "prominent force" in European tourism, as more and more were visiting places such as Spain and Italy.
Speaking to the Sun, chief executive John Bevan commented: "The battle for Europe's sunbeds will be more intense than ever this summer."
He added that tourism authorities in countries including Italy were now making a concerted effort to tap into the Russian market.
Since this is one of the largest consumer bases in the world, such a move could prove to be highly lucrative for the economies of each destination.
Furthermore, it may also enhance their appeal among overseas property buyers, as their growing popularity could push up demand for tourist accommodation.
This comes after the Association of British Travel Agents revealed established European markets were also popular with people from the UK this year.
