Culture is key to Italian appeal

British buyers looking at investment property in Italy are typically attracted by its diverse culture and good range of services, according to the Global Property Group.
Mike Dunkerley, director of the firm, said that EC membership was also a bonus of Italian living, with the "very good" Italian health service available to British residents.
"The overall culture is an attraction," he said. "It's a different lifestyle, the weather is far nicer, there's quite a lot of exploring to do a place like Italy is full of history, so you can wile away a good few years exploring all of that."
He confirmed the vast array of holiday options available within the country, sure to allow retirees an enriching stay, as well as attracting consistent tourist income.
"In the summertime it can be extremely hot you do need air conditioning to cope with the summers, certainly down in the south," he stated.
"On the other hand, there are some very high mountains down in the south, where they have skiing.
"You can escape from the heat of the lower levels by going up into the mountains, six thousand feet for example, and it's like an alpine climate, much cooler. All of this can happen within a 10-15 kilometre [space]."
Investors should also be interested to learn that inheritance tax was abolished in Italy in 2001.
