40% of Britons 'thinking of moving abroad'

About four in ten Britons have seriously considered relocating to another country, a new poll has found.
Research commissioned the Taxpayers' Alliance found that in the last year, the number of people thinking of moving abroad increased from 22 per cent to 40 per cent, the Times reports.
The increase was attributed to a variety of causes, including a widespread dissatisfaction with the quality of life in Britain.
Respondents cited issues such as public services and the increasing cost of living as two of the main factors that were encouraging people to think of purchasing a home overseas.
Matthew Elliot, chief executive of the Taxpayers' Alliance, said: "People feel that they are working harder and harder just to stand still."
He added that in these circumstances, it was "unsurprising" that people were seeking to improve their lifestyle by moving abroad.
During the year to July 2006, approximately 385,000 Britons relocated to another country, according to official figures.
