Georgian authorities aim to boost tourism

Authorities in Georgia have commissioned a poll to gauge the views of foreign leisure travellers.
The government will use the findings of the study to be proactive in making the country more appealing to visitors in the future, reports the Georgian Times.
Research has so far shown that some visitors encountered problems because of the language barrier, as some had difficulty following road signs.
Commenting on the study, Beka Jakeli of the tourism department said the findings would be considered by the relevant authorities.
He commented: "This survey is already helping us to improve the tourism sector and of course we will take into account what we have learned."
Mr Jakeli added that similar surveys will be carried out every year in order to evaluate the performance of the holiday industry.
The study did yield a number of positive findings, however, as more than 49 per cent of respondents said their trip to Georgia had gone "way beyond" their expectations.
Georgia is currently in the process of boosting international relations by bidding to join the European Union.
