Georgia tourist trade set to grow

Foreign property owners could stand to collect healthy returns on their investments in Georgia this year.
According to the Messenger, the government in the former Soviet country is expecting more than a million people to visit during 2008.
Tourism minister Beka Jakeli was quoted as saying that authorities have recently been pumping large sums of money into promoting Georgia overseas.
This, he said, has led to the number of foreign arrivals in the country increasing every year.
As well as boosting the tourist sector and national economy, this development could also boost its appeal among foreign property investors, particularly those who are interested in letting their residence out to holidaymakers.
Mr Jakeli added that ski resorts in Georgia are proving to be especially popular, while the Black Sea coastal province of Adjara is also attracting lots of visitors.
Meanwhile, the Financial reports that tourist authorities are aiming to market the country at wine lovers, as it is the oldest wine producing region of Europe.
