UK buyers dream of overseas property

A new survey has revealed that 42 per cent of Britons are interested in buying or moving abroad, with Australia voted the most popular destination.
The research from Bank of Scotland International showed that Australasia and North America were favoured destinations of Brits asked where they would most like to live in the world.
The US and Canada finished third equal with seven per cent of the vote, while New Zealand with nine per cent was narrowly beaten by Australia - one in ten of those surveyed favoured a move Down Under.
Despite the popularity of buying a second home or emigrating, Bank of Scotland International managing director Tony Wilcox stressed the importance of proper preparation for a move abroad: "If you are planning to leave the UK to live temporarily or permanently overseas, you need the right products and services in place, so that you have a firm foundation for your finances, no matter where you are.
"When moving abroad there are many aspects of life which British expatriates have to adjust to and personal finance is no exception."
Of those surveyed, four per cent already owned overseas property, while of the 42 per cent who dreamed of a place in the sun, the majority (18 per cent) were based in the South East.
