"Sophisticated" surroundings in Portugal

British buyers looking for investment property abroad without the unwanted appearance of stereotypical "Brits abroad" should consider Portugal, according to one industry commentator.
Nicholas Marr, chief executive officer of Homesgofast, said that improved accessibility and a slower pace of life made Portugal an ideal fit for the more mature property buyer, especially those looking to retire abroad.
While he agreed that the market wasn't yet the finished article, he forecast a bright future.
"Everything's positive for the Portugal market," Mr Marr said. "I would say it's a more a sophisticated place than Spain. It hasn't got your guys running around in Union Jack shorts singing 'here we go, here we go'. I'd say it's a slightly more sophisticated market.
"It's got huge potential. And people who are finding difficultly getting away from the 'Brits abroad' in Spain
will go to Portugal."
Portugal was recently revealed to show the strongest holiday home growth in western Europe in the last year, according to Propertyshowrooms.co.uk.
