Strong euro 'has not hit French tourism'

Tourism in France has not been negatively affected by the strong euro, a government minister has stated.
Many experts had predicted that the number of visitors to the eurozone would be hit by the strength of the currency when compared with others.
Media outlets in countries such as the US have recently encouraged American consumers to visit alternative destinations where the dollar is worth more and can therefore go a lot further.
However, Reuters has quoted French tourism and consumer affairs secretary Luc Chatel as saying that the overall number of visitors in France last year could come to more than 80 million.
He commented: "France is going to set a record in 2007."
Last year was notable for the introduction of a high-speed rail link between France and the UK by Eurostar.
According to currency specialist HiFX, this has led to considerable interest in the country among overseas property buyers living in Britain.
