Buyers of French property should carry out survey

People who are buying a property in France have been advised to have a full survey of the house carried out.
Greg Dawon, owner of a second home in Bergerac, told the Telegraph that although surveys were not standard practice in France, it would still be a prudent move.
His comments were reinforced by Simon Conn of specialist broker Conti Financial Services, who said: "This is advisable as it will highlight any structural or building defects such as damp or subsidence."
The newspaper added that people are buying a property in France would also be able to benefit from the peace of mind a survey guarantees.
Prospective buyers were also told that having a full structural check would only cost them about £250.
France has recently attracted extra attention from British property investors as a result of a new service from Eurostar.
Passengers can now travel by train from London to Paris in just two hours and 15 minutes.
