Britons buying holiday homes before emigrating

Many people are buying overseas properties as a precursor to emigration, new research has revealed.
Currency specialist HiFX stated that since emigrating on a permanent basis was a big lifestyle change, some Britons were purchasing a foreign residence in order to sample life outside of the UK before making any major commitments.
The firm speculated that many expatriates who are setting up home in places such as France will have previously bought a holiday home in the country.
This, it said, would allow people to "test the water as to whether they are suited to a life abroad".
HiFX went on to cite earlier research which found that almost one in three holiday home buyers said they planned to relocate or retire to their overseas property at some point in the future.
The firm recently revealed that the launch of a new high-speed rail link between London and Paris by Eurostar has triggered a surge of additional interest in the French property market.
