Britons 'opt for long-haul destinations'

Long-haul destinations are proving to be increasingly popular among British leisure travellers, a holiday firm has revealed.
Co-operative Travel stated that a growing number of people were choosing to spend Christmas in places such as Egypt.
The firm said that the amount of bookings for the north African country was 31 per cent higher than last year.
This, it continued, made it one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the world, ahead of places including Portugal and Spain.
Egypt's appeal was said to be largely based on its good weather, as it allowed visitors to enjoy hot and sunny conditions during the cold winter months.
Joanne Evison, regional manager at Co-operative Travel's Sale and Altrincham outlet, told the Northwich Guardian: "The feedback from our customers is that, having missed out on a hot summer, they are desperate to get some sun over the winter."
Lastminute.com recently highlighted the Cape Verde islands as another popular location for festive holidaymakers, as it has good weather all year round.
