Winter sun-seekers head for Dubai

Dubai is attracting a large number of winter sun-seekers from the UK, experts have revealed.

According to Cheapflights.co.uk, the city has become a "holiday haven" due to its good weather at this time of year.

The price comparison site described Dubai as a "thriving metropolis" which was surrounded by good beaches, coastlines and reasonably priced leisure facilities.

Francesca Ecsery, general manager of Cheapflights, said that people who wanted to escape the British winter would be able to snap up some good travel deals.

She commented: "The end of the holiday season brings on the January Blues which, coupled with this unpleasantly wet weather, makes it a very popular time of year to search for travel."

Ms Escery added that January was a "great time" to get a bargain holiday.

Meanwhile, the World Travel & Tourism Council has stated that the growing popularity of places such as Dubai is having a positive effect on its economy.

The organisation said the government was investing heavily in new infrastructure and facilities as a result of its increased popularity.
