City and tourist attraction

Dubailand was created primarily to attract tourists from around the world to Dubai. However, its designers consider Dubailand as a city, and as such it will have all the facilities required to support its own resident population. Once completed, Dubailand will have 45 major projects and 200 sub-projects, providing housing, leisure and sports facilities. It is divided into six zones: Attractions and Experience World, Retail and Entertainment World, Leisure and Vacation World, Eco-Tourism World, Sports and Outdoor World, and Downtown.

Attractions and Experience World

Attractions and Experience World is the part of Dubailand most similar to a Disney-style resort, with a number of theme parks and water parks. This zone is geared towards tourists, with ‘Kids City’ and ‘Giants World’ two of the planned parks, but as well as hotel complexes it will also include residential zones, shops and schools for its permanent population. Retail and Entertainment World will include the world’s largest mall, as well as auctions, flea markets and factory outlets.

Leisure and Vacation World

Leisure and Vacation World is designed to be a relaxing alternative to the rest of Dubailand, with spas, wellness retreats and health clubs. Eco-Tourism World will be based around a nature theme, using the resort’s desert surroundings as the backdrop for an animal world, petting zoo, equestrian centre and science museum. Downtown will be Dubailand’s centre, and the area will be like the downtown of any big city, providing entertainment, retail, office and dining facilities as well as a residential area. The Downtown zone will have other projects including the Towers, Virtual Games World, Teen World, the Great Dubai Wheel (planned to be the world’s second largest observation wheel) and City Walk.

Sports and Outdoor World

Sports and Outdoor World will include facilities for golf, an equestrian and polo club, the Dubai Autodrome, and Sports City. The city is planned to incorporate residential and commercial projects alongside world class sporting academies and venues. Sports City will include four sports stadia – an outdoor stadium, a cricket stadium, an indoor stadium and a field hockey venue. Sports academies will include Manchester United Soccer Schools, an International Cricket Council Global Cricket Academy, a David Lloyd Tennis Academy and a Butch Harmon School of Golf. In addition to the sports-themed facilities, Sports City also has all the amenities needed by a normal city, with residential and commercial sectors, and facilities for health, leisure and retail.

One-bed apartments are available in Sports City for approximately AED 450,000.
