More Britons head for Cyprus

A growing number of British holidaymakers are choosing to visit Cyprus this year, according to new figures.
Official data cited by the Financial Mirror revealed that in February 2008, almost 33,000 people from the UK took a holiday on the island.
This is 4.4 per cent higher than the figure recorded in February 2007, during which Cyprus attracted 31,481 British visitors.
Statistics also indicated that the number of German visitors went up during the same period, albeit by a greater margin of 24.8 per cent.
The figures will be welcome reading for officials in the Cypriot tourism industry, as it means that efforts to market the country overseas are apparently paying off.
In addition, they suggest that owners of buy-to-let accommodation in major tourist resorts are experiencing greater demand for their services.
According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the island is currently one of Europe's fastest growing property markets.
The organisation recently reported that property values in Cyprus went up by 15 per cent in 2007.
