Early Easter boosts Cyprus tourist numbers

Officials in Cyprus have revealed that the number of holidaymakers who visited the island last month was up on March 2007.
Figures cited by the Financial Mirror showed that tourist numbers in March 2008 were 3.7 per cent higher than the amount recorded a year earlier.
A total of 108,164 foreign visitors arrived in the country last month, of which more than half were British.
The Financial Mirror noted that the island's popularity with Britons comes despite recent currency fluctuations, as the pound has slumped in value against the euro.
In fact, sterling is now at a record low against the single European currency.
Meanwhile, the newspaper attributed the overall increase in visitors numbers to the fact that Easter fell in March this year, whereas the holiday season was in April last year.
This was the earliest it had fallen in the year in almost a century.
