Cyprus tourists encouraged to convert money

A currency specialist has reminded visitors to Cyprus that they will need to convert old money into euros.
Thomas Cook said it would not be able to accept Cypriot pounds after February 28th, which means that people will have to convert outstanding tender before this date.
Although the various foreign exchange firms and banks have introduced different deadlines, people who leave it too late will still be running the risk of being left with worthless notes and coins.
The company also stated that if leftover money is converted into euros, holidaymakers would have a bit more to spend during their trip.
Melanie Whitehouse, director of foreign exchange at Thomas Cook, commented: "Its always good to take some extra money, so holidaymakers who have spare Cypriot pounds should make a note to change their currency before the deadline."
Cyprus became a member of the single European currency at the beginning of the year.
The Telegraph recently stated that the economic benefits of its euro membership could help to encourage more British investors to purchase a house on the island.
