Cyprus 'to grow in popularity'
Cyprus is set to become an increasingly popular holiday destination, according to a budget airline.
Speaking after the announcement of new flights to the island, Flyglobespan chairman Tom Dalrymple said he had "high hopes" for the service, which will begin in April next year.
The budget airline is set to offer travellers direct passage between Durham Tees Valley Airport and Paphos, which is likely to lead to greater tourism from the region.
He commented: "We are very pleased to be launching another direct route from the airport and have high hopes that it will prove a popular choice for holidaymakers from the north-east."
Meanwhile, Hugh Lang of Durham Tees Valley Airport described the new service as "great news" for both local people and the hub itself.
The improved access to Cyprus could possibly make it more appealing to overseas property investors, many of whom will see the new flight as a sign of continuing demand.
UK newspaper the Telegraph recently recommended that prospective investors keep an eye on which services are being launched by low-cost carriers, as their destinations may be future growth areas.
