Cyprus switches currency

The number of countries using the single European currency has risen to 15 after Cyprus's adoption of the euro.
A special ceremony attended by dignitaries and politicians was held to mark the changeover, which president Tassos Papadopoulos said marked the beginning of a new era.
Speaking at the event, he stated entering the euro was a greater achievement than becoming a member of the European Union in 2004.
President Papadopoulos added: "The introduction of the euro is not simply a change of our national currency - it is in essence a change of the way of life."
Meanwhile, the island's entry into the euro has also been welcomed by other leading figures, such as European commissioner for economic and monetary affairs Joaquin Almunia.
He stated that that Cyprus' adoption of the currency was an "historic event", as membership was the most "tangible aspect" of EU integration.
