Cyprus 'popular with British holidaymakers'

The Mediterranean island of Cyprus is continuing to attract British tourists, according to new figures.
Statistics cited by the Financial Mirror showed that the overall number of holidaymakers on the island rose by 6.4 per cent during the year to September 2007.
More than half of these were said to be from the UK, indicating the island's continued popularity among British tourists.
Official figures showed that 170,708 British people arrived for a holiday in Cyprus last year, although this number increased to 178,664 in 2007.
The popularity of the island among holidaymakers from the UK could potentially have a positive effect on its housing market, as some could be tempted to invest in rental accommodation or a holiday home.
Property writer Kevin Moore recently observed that many overseas investors on the island were former tourists who had previously visited it for holidays.
