Cyprus 'attracting more foreign visitors'

The Mediterranean island of Cyprus is growing in popularity among foreign leisure travellers, new figures have revealed.
According to the Statistical Service Cystat, visitor numbers in the year to September 2007 have risen by 6.4 per cent, reports the Financial Mirror.
This led to a similar increase in travel expenditure, with holidaymakers spending larger sums of money on the island than they did last year.
Figures showed that in September 2007, about £188 million was spent by visitors to Cyprus - 9.3 per cent more than 12 months before.
This means that the island's tourist industry is proving to be highly lucrative, generating increased amounts of wealth for its economy.
Earlier this month, Cyprus' popularity with foreign visitors was highlighted by Gulf Weekly, which said its holiday sector was "flourishing".
The news provider added that this was leading to many people choosing to buy investment properties and holiday homes in desirable areas.
