Cosmetic surgery lifts Cypriot economy

Cyprus has seen increased numbers of visitors flocking to the island for cosmetic surgery, according to the Cyprus Mail.
A recent study from the Cypriot Health Ministry revealed that 60 per cent of private clinics were involved in medical tourism.
Some clinics were found to receive up to half of their business from inbound tourists, with Medical Association president Dr Antonis Vassiliou attributing this influx of funds to the low costs of medical treatments in the country.
"Although Cyprus is not a cheap tourist destination, medical treatments are often cheaper here than in other countries and patients want to combine it with a holiday while they recuperate," he argued.
While the study found cosmetic surgery to be the most popular choice among medical tourists, Brits looking to buy property in Cyprus would also be pleased to hear the staggeringly low cost of private dentistry on the island.
Athena Theodorou, an official for the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, told the Cyprus Mail that the cost of dental work was "half the price it is in the UK and that includes the cost of the ticket here and the holiday costs".
