Investment Property in Cyprus
Locations - Pissouri
Two centres
Pissouri is located on the south coast of Cyprus, roughly halfway between Limassol and Paphos. Over the years it has developed into two separate centres: Pissouri Village and Pissouri Beach. Property in Pissouri is popular with both Cypriot and foreign house buyers, and its property market has benefited from its growing popularity with tourists.
Pissouri Village
The authentic Cypriot charm of Pissouri Village, and its unique situation on a hillside overlooking the sea with views along the coast to Limassol and north to the Troodos mountain range, have helped to put property in Pissouri on the map, even though the area is small. The total population in the height of the summer season reaches around 1,100; this is roughly equally split between Cypriot people and foreigners, and the market for property in Pissouri is similarly split between local and foreign demand.
Farming community
Although Pissouri Village has developed to offer its visitors more in the way of amenities, it still remains a farming community at heart and since its traditional feel is clearly where its appeal lies, it is unlikely that this natural growth will ever tip over into over-development.
Infrastructure
Pissouri Village now offers its visitors a range of amenities including tavernas, cafés, shops, banks and a pharmacy, to ensure that their day-to-day needs will be met and that there is an infrastructure in place to support its expanding property market.
Pissouri Beach
The popular Pissouri Beach is just a few kilometres down the hill. This area has developed over the last 20 years and, although still small, it now offers many of the facilities of a larger town with numerous places to eat and drink, alongside shops and residential areas. The eateries and accommodation of Pissouri Beach remain popular with visitors throughout the year, which translates into year-round rental potential for investors.
Natural appeal
It has clean and warm water and a sand and shingle beach. It is a regular nesting area for green and loggerhead turtles which come ashore to lay their eggs between June and August. There is a local group of ‘Turtle Watch’ volunteers who patrol the beaches early in the morning looking for nests which are then protected until the young hatch.
