Croatia's rural attributes praised

Croatia's natural beauty has been internationally recognised as part of a Europe-wide award scheme.
The European Destinations of Excellence (Eden) initiative was set up to recognise the best emerging rural destinations in the continent.
Croatia's Sveti Martin na Muri district was among the areas that received particular praise.
Officials said the region, located in the north of the country, was an attractive rural area that also benefited from being a spa destination.
Its thermal spring of medicinal water was described as one of Croatia's most beautiful natural spas.
Gunter Verheugen, vice president of the European commission, said: "The Eden Project supports European tourism and enhances the visibility of several non traditional destinations."
He added that it was also rewarding sustainable forms of tourism and successful business models, while helping to create new jobs in the highlighted areas.
This will be a welcome boost to Croatia's tourist industry, which the Southeast European Times said was aiming to compete with countries such as Greece and Turkey as a holiday destination.
