Croatian visitor numbers increase

The number of business and leisure travellers visiting Croatia has risen again this year, according to new figures.
Statistics cited by IOL Travel showed that between January and September 2007, the number of foreign arrivals was six per cent higher than during the same period of the previous year.
The findings are likely to be good news for investors in Croatian rental accommodation, as they also highlighted a five per cent increase in the amount of overnight stays.
Officials have responded positively to the figures by predicting that the country will become increasingly popular with foreign holidaymakers.
Eduard Kusen from Croatia's tourism institute highlighted many of the country's positive features, such as its developed and improving infrastructure and numerous visitor attractions.
He added: "Croatia has an excellent geographical position as it is close to tourist markets."
This comes after the Southeast European Times reported that the country was planning to compete with countries such as Greece and Turkey as a holiday destination.
