Cinematic locations 'draw travellers in'

Tourists are expected to draw their inspiration from movies next year, visiting some of the more exotic locations they see in films.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents the release of several movies set in far flung destinations in 2008 will lead to an increase in travellers visiting these locations.
For example, the Baz Luhrman film Australia, set in the northern outback in the 1930s and starring Nicole Kidman, could reignite interest in the land down under among tourists.
Similarly, Love in the Time of Cholera, filmed in Columbia, and a film adaptation of the Alex McCall Smith novel No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, set in Botswana, could bring about a boost in tourist numbers in these countries.
ABTA's predictions could turn out to be right if the effect of previous films on tourism is anything to go by. The release of Miss Potter, starring Renee Zellwegger as the children's author Beatrix Potter, led to a surge in visitors to the English Lake District last year.
Property investors with holiday homes in cinematic locations are expected to benefit from higher demand for their properties, while those looking for new opportunities would be wise to keep up with the latest movie industry developments.
