Economic Drivers

Good growth indicators

The good news is that experts are predicting that growth will come along quickly, and inward investment is already increasing, particularly in greenfield investments.

On top of this, inflation is under control and the Kuna is stable enough to provide a good platform for growth before joining the European Union and adopting the euro.

Education is good, with strong literacy rates of over 98%, and the past couple of years have provided impressive growth rates of 3% and 4%.

Once EU accession has been agreed, and as long as the Government remains stable, Croatia should be a contributor, rather than a drain, on Europe's economic power.

The growth catalysts

Zagreb is by far the most important city for Croatia's economy, with the country's highest-earners as well as big businesses based there.

Following the capital in terms of economic importance is the region of Istria - a reflection of the influence of tourism on the country's economy.

The Government is keen to build on this industry and develop the residential tourism side of the market, meaning that it should get easier for overseas buyers to purchase property in the country.

Intelligent development

At the same time, the Government is by no means selling off the environmental future of Croatia in return for the property market's cash.

There seems to be an intelligent approach to how much development is allowed to take place and if this is followed through to other foreign investment, growth in the Croatian economy should be stable and sustainable for the future.
