Investment Property in Chile
Locations - Santiago
Dynamic economy
Santiago is the capital of Chile, and home to 5 million people. The city is the economic centre of the country – it contributes 45% of Chile’s total GDP - and its dynamic economy is attracting investment from large companies as well as smaller property investors. Chile’s reputation is set apart from that of the South American continent as a whole, where the names of many countries are synonymous with corruption. Therefore, it is unsurprising that companies choose Santiago, one of South America’s main financial centres and the capital of one of the continent’s most stable countries, as their South American base.
Business centre
Santiago is home to the regional bases of many large multinationals including Microsoft, JP Morgan, Coca-Cola, Ford, IBM and Reuters. Its rapid growth in business terms is reflected in the development of Santiago’s infrastructure in other areas. Residents of the city have seen improvements to the transport system, including the building of a series of freeway tunnels and ongoing projects to improve the metro subway system.
Construction projects
With investment pouring in, construction is moving equally quickly. In the financial district work is underway on the Costanera Centre which will include a mall, 300m tower, two 170m office blocks and a 105m hotel. There are many other commercial and residential construction projects underway in different parts of the city, as Chile’s capital continues to grow.
City life
Aside from its growth as a centre for business, Santiago is a popular place to live and visit. It has a lively nightlife with different styles of bars and restaurants from around the world, and it is in the rare position for a capital city of being just 50km away from ski slopes and 100km away from stunning beaches. Visitors do not need to travel far out of the city to find a number of charming villages and vineyards.
Business districts
Santiago is one of the most popular destinations with investors in Chilean real estate. Property prices differ between different areas of the city. The financial district, El Centro, is also the oldest part of the city, but businesses are increasingly choosing to move into the newer areas instead.
Residential areas
The modern and trendy Las Condes area is popular for residential property. It is one of the more expensive areas, with properties around twice the price of the equivalent in the cheapest parts of the city, but buyers are often willing to pay a premium for the trendy cafés, bars, restaurants, well-kept parks, quiet residential areas and convenient transport links the area provides.
