New bid to attract tourists to Cape Verde

Cape Verde's main tourist organisation is launching a new promotional drive to attract more visitors to the islands.
Along with national airline TACV, Cabo Verde Investimentos is aiming to promote the islands to holidaymakers from the UK and other countries in western Europe.
This comes ahead of the launch of new flights between London and capital city Praia and another service to Sal.
Victor Fidalgo, president of the organisation, said the ultimate aim was to make Cape Verde more competitive and attract up to 500,000 tourists to the archipelago by 2011.
He commented: "Some of the constraints mentioned by investors and tourists are related to the reduced number of flights connecting Cape Verde to northern Europe."
Mr Fidalgo added that the property market, which was already in "permanent ascension", would benefit from greater visitor numbers.
Recently, UK newspaper the Mirror predicted that Cape Verde would rival the Canaries in terms of their popularity among overseas property investors.
