Natural attractions 'boost Cape Verde economy'

People in Cape Verde have been urged to make efforts to help preserve the country's natural attractions.
According to the archipelago's prime minister, the coastline in particular needs to be preserved because it hosts many marine species.
Jose Maria Neves added that the country's beaches are also contributing to the continuing growth in the national economy.
This is because they are helping to draw overseas leisure travellers to Cape Verde, which in turn is fuelling foreign investment, particularly in its housing market.
"Without the beaches, no more tourists will come to Cape Verde," Mr Neves commented.
He added that the growing tourist trade is helping to underpin economic expansion across the country.
Mr Neves recently stated that developments such as joining the World Trade Organisation have also helped the nation to become far more competitive.
This, he said, means it has been able to perform well amid the current downturn in the global economy.
